Artist Statement
Since the mid 1980's, my goal as an artist has been to capture the action and atmosphere of rual america. I enjoy using movement in many of my works, whether it is a snowball in flight or a handful of leaves tossed in the air. Hopefully these images will bring back memories of a time when life was simpler and more satisfying.
I work primarily in watercolors and I am contantly trying to find the perfect balance between the real and abstract. The transparent qualities and the permanence of the colors make planning a must. Fickel by nature, I am always trying different subject matter and believe that variety keeps the subject matter fresh and the viewer from getting bored.
